Kra-Dai Family Tree

     The clay relief wall sculpture made by low heat and slowly. Thai folk Artist, Amdaeng Dan Kwian inspired by Dr. James R. Chamberlain’s linguistic research that represents the shared origins of Kra-Dai speaking peoples such as Tai, Lao, Shan, Zhuang and related groups. It is over thousands of years in Southeast Asia and Southern China. 
     Roots represent the ancient communities, land, water and 
rice-based life 

  • Trunk represents the one origin of Kra-Dai

  • Branches represent the different ethnic groups forming identities

  • Leaves represent the societies of present that changing cultures
